As originally feared, Anton Tinnerholm suffered an Achilles injury in New York City FC’s scoreless draw with Nashville SC Sunday, the MLS club announced Tuesday.

The right back is finished for the season and his recovery could be as much as six months, said NYCFC radio announcer Glenn Crooks, who said he had spoken to two surgeons.

Tinnherolm will undergo surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Wednesday.

“It was by far the worst feeling I’ve ever felt, and the past two days have been a nightmare,” Tinnerholm said on social media.

“So many thoughts running through my head right now. Hearing the doctors say how long I’m going to be out was painful and I’ve shed a lot of tears. I just wish I could play to help my teammates and play in front of the fans. It will be a long road ahead, but I am ready.

“I appreciate all the messages and support I’ve received. It has been overwhelming and I’m very grateful. I’m going too get through this.”
