HARRISON, N.J. – Red Bulls II have signed midfielder Steven Sserwadda to a USL Championship contract, the club announced Thursday.
The signing was completed prior to the Championship’s roster freeze last Friday. The club did not explain why it took so long to announce the agreement.
Sserwadda, 19, most recently played for Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club in the Ugandan Premier League.
“We feel Steven is going to fit in really well,” NYRB II head coach John Wolyniec said in a statement. “He’s an industrious, very active and engaged player. We think he’s a good fit for what we’re trying to do, and we hope that we can get him going here as soon as possible.”
The Kampala, Uganda native has featured for Ugandan national teams at the Under-20 and U-23 levels.
“I’m excited to be here,” Sserwadda said in a statement. “It’s a great facility, great team, and it’s a good thing that we are all in the same age category. I can’t wait to start playing with this team.”
