Red Bulls II actually won a game Wednesday.

Let’s repeat that: Red Bulls II won a USL Championship match.

In fact, it was a road game, a 3-2 victory over the Charleston Battery at Patriot Point Soccer Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

New York (19 points) improved to 5-16-4 while Charleston (30) fell to 8-9-6.

Red Bulls II opened the scoring in the 14th minute, as forward Serge Ngoma won possession from a Charleston player just past midfield and went on a breakaway. He got past Charleston’s goalkeeper and fund the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

The visitors doubled their advantage six minutes later, as defender Mandela Egbo played a ball into the box that found midfielder Jake LaCava, who ripped a shot into the net.

Charleston pulled one back in the 34th minute, as forward Joel Bunting headed in a ball that took a deflection off a service into the box.

New York struck in the 47th minute, as midfielder Jeremy Rafanello capitalized off a feed from Egbo for a 3-1 lead, scoring his fifth goal of the campaign.

The hosts came within one goal a second time late in the match, as defender Leland Archer headed in a free kick in the 80th minute.

Red Bulls II will travel to face Real Monarchs SLC Sunday at 9 p.m.
