QUEENS, N.Y. – After leading the St. John’s University men to a win in their Big East opener as part of an unbeaten week, Luka Gavran and Lucas Bartlett were recognized by the conference for their efforts.
Gavran has been named the league’s goalkeeper of the week while Bartlett found a spot on the conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Gavran earned his first career weekly honor after posting back-to-back shutouts in 1-0 victories over Columbia University and Xavier University. In the team’s second victory of the week against the Musketeers, Gavran made three saves in the first half to help seal his fourth clean sheet in seven opportunities.
Gavran has a 5-2-0 record and a 0.71 goals-against average and an .800 save percentage.
Bartlett chipped in on both of the ends of the pitch, anchoring the backline in the shutouts while registering a goal. In the 43rd minute of last Monday’s win over Columbia, Bartlett headed home a corner kick from Atila Ashrafi for his second goal of the season. Bartlett ranks second on the team in goals (2), assists (2) and points (6).
In Saturday’s Big East opener, Bartlett played the full 90 minutes and helped hold Xavier scoreless. The Johnnies outshot Xavier, 13-4, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Against Columbia, Bartlett helped the Red Storm outshoot the Lions, 18-7, including a 7-0 advantage in chances on target.
