RICHMOND, Va. – Two Hofstra University women’s soccer student-athletes picked up Colonial Athletic Association weekly awards, it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Junior goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich earned defensive player of the week honors while freshman midfielder Georgia Brown secured her second rookie of the week nod of the season.
Kuzmich won defensive player of the week honors for the first time in her career after having arguably her best performance on the pitch since she stepped foot on campus. Kuzmich compiled a career-high seven saves in Hofstra’s huge road win over No. 22 Princeton Thursday evening, earning her first career shutout over a ranked team, her third consecutive clean sheet, and Hofstra’s sixth shutout this season.
Kuzmich leads the CAA in goals against average (0.46) and shutouts (five) while her five shutouts are tied for the second-highest total in the nation. She also is tied for second in the conference with a 0.833 save percentage.
Brown collected her second rookie of the week honor this season after tallying the game-winning goal at Princeton last week. Brown headed in a perfect cross by Lucy Shepherd in the 10th minute of action, and that goal stood as the game-winning goal.
The goal was Brown’s fourth of the season. She is tied for third on the team in that category. Brown has eight points this season, good for fourth on the squad and seventh in the CAA.
