HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University men erupted for a season-high four goals, including two from Matthew Vowinkel en route to a 4-0 home-opening victory over UAlbany at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Tuesday night.

The Pride (4-1) opened the scoring at 10:50 as Ryan Carmichael found the back of the net for the second time this season with Stefan Mason and Storm Strongin collecting assists.

Vowinkel doubled the lead just about nine minutes later when he knocked in a one-time pass from Hendrik Hebbeker with Pierce Infuso also earning an assist.

In the 50th minute, Vowinkel headed in his second goal of the game and third of the season off a corner kick from Strongin. Hebbeker closed out the scoring as he and Vowinkel executed a give-and-go at 53:15.

Vowinkel finished with two goals and an assist. He has 32 career goals to move into fifth place on Hofstra’s all-time scoring list.

Goalkeeper Wessel Speel made three saves, recording his fourth shutout of the season. Albany’s Carlos Tofern had five saves.

The Pride Hofstra is 22-8-3 all-time in home openers under head coach Richard Nuttall.

Hofstra hosts Drexel University in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup Saturday at 4 p.m.
