A pair of former Cosmos players played major roles in the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ 6-0 demolition of Red Bulls II Saturday night.
Sebastian Guenzatti scored two goals and assisted on two others and Leo Fernandes added a brace at Al Lang Stadium in a USL Championship match in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Red Bulls II (16 points) dropped to 4-14-4 while the Rowdies (49) improved to 16-6-1. Tampa Bay has as many wins as NYRBII has points.
Tampa Bay opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Fernandes finished a centering pass from Sebastian Dalgaard.
Later in the half, the Rowdies scored twice in a three-minute span. Guenzatti tallied off a drive down the middle of the field in the 36th minute. Fernandes scored his second of the match in the 39th minute.
Guenzatti recorded his second goal in the 49th minute, finishing off a pass from Yann Ekra.
Ekra scored two goals of his own in the 58th and 69th minutes.
Defender Lucas Monzón made his club debut in the match for New York.
NYRBII will return home on Wednesday, September 15 to host San Antonio FC at MSU Soccer Park at 7 p.m. ET.
