BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Hofstra University men could not overcome a two-goal deficit and dropped a 2-1 decision to Northeastern University in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams at Parsons Field Saturday night.

The loss was Hofstra’s (3-1-0, 0-1-0) first of the season.

Timothy Ennin put Northeastern (3-1-1, 1-0-0) on the board in the 67th minute as he sent a left-footed shot into the top of the goal off a pass from Omar Da Naia. The goal was the first allowed by Hofstra in 455:03, dating back to April 15, 2021.

The Huskies extended the lead in the 76th minute as Federico Telliz sent in a shot from distance off a pass from Ennin.

Masn Tatafu, a freshman defender, gave Hofstra hope with goal following a corner kick in the 86th minute. Storm Strongin sent the corner into the box with the ball finding Tatafu just inside the top of the box on the left side. He blasted a shot past goalkeeper Colby Hegarty with Ryan Carmichael and Holger Maaloe earning assists.

Hegarty finished with four saves for the Huskies. Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel made two saves.

The Pride returns to action Tuesday when it hosts UAlbany at 7 p.m.
