BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Ryan Carmichael scored with 46 seconds remaining in the first half as the Hofstra University men recorded a 1-0 victory over LIU at LIU Soccer Park Wednesday night.

The victory was Hofstra’s (3-0-0) third straight to start the season and its third consecutive shutout as the Sharks slipped to 1-2-1.

The Pride’s win completed a two-game stretch with wins over its Long Island Division I rivals. Hofstra defeated Stony Brook University, 1-0, Aug. 30.

The lone game came as time ticked down in the final minute in the first half. Stefan Mason sent a long pass down the right side that was one-touched across by Francesco Perinelli to the foot of Carmichael, and the sophomore forward buried the shot for his first goal of the season.

Hofstra sophomore goalkeeper Wessel Speel made five saves for his third shutout of the season. The defense chipped in with three blocked shots, including two from inside the box.

LIU goalkeeper Demetri Skoumbakis made two saves.
