EDISON, N.J.– Monmouth University junior forward Julian Gomez and redshirt senior goalkeeper Sean Murray have earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s soccer player of the week honors, the league announced Monday.

Gomez was named offensive player of the week, while Murray collected defensive player of the week.

In Monmouth’s 3-0 win over St. Francis Brooklyn, Gomez scored a goal and notched two assists. He opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, taking a feed from Liam McGregor and Luke McBeth and sending a left-footed shot to the far post. Just over four minutes later, he earned a secondary assist on a McGregor goal. Later in the second half, he sent a low pass across the box to teammate Ben Zakowski, who sealed the win. Gomez has now scored a goal in eight straight games played dating back to last spring.

Murray recorded a shutout in the win Saturday. He totaled four saves against the Terriers, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, eventually falling in penalty kicks to national finalist Indiana.

Monmouth improved to 1-0-1 with the win over St. Francis Brooklyn.

The Hawks travel to the University of Delaware for a non-conference matchup Tuesday night.
