NEW YORK – The Hofstra University women scored three goals in under five minutes during the second half to roll past Columbia University, 3-0, Thursday night.

It was a dominating performance for the No. 25 Pride (4-1), which outshot the Lions, 21-3, and held a 10-0 edge in shots on target. Hofstra also garnered a season-high 10 corner kicks on the evening to just three for Columbia (0-2-1)

Lucy Porter, Ellen Halseth, and Lucy Shepherd scored for Hofstra, while Shepherd and Miri Taylor posted assists.

After a scoreless first half, the Hofstra offense exploded out of the break to take complete control of the contest.

A ball played into the box by Shepherd was touched across to Porter for her first goal of the season and the opening goal of the contest during the 52nd minute to give the Blue and Gold the lead.

Only 42 seconds later, Halseth sent a right-footed shot from outside the box under the crossbar to double the advantage. Hofstra capped off the burst with a goal by Shepherd directly off of a corner kick on the right side of the pitch to give Hofstra a 3-0 lead.

Hofstra hosts the University of Pennsylvania Sunday at noon at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
