New York City FC defender James Sands has been selected to represent the U.S. men’s national team for September’s three World Cup qualifiers.
The 21-year-old Sands made his senior international debut in June during the Concacaf Gold Cup against Haiti.
No player from the Red Bulls was selected.
City’s first Homegrown signing has enjoyed a memorable summer as he has made more appearances for head coach Gregg Berhalter’s side – including a 1-0 victory over Mexico in the final.
The U.S. visits El Salvador Sept. 2, hosts Canada Sept. 5, and travels to Honduras Sept. 8.
