QUEENS, N.Y. – After helping the St. John’s women to a pair of lopsided wins, Zsani Kajan has been named Big East offensive player of the week, it was announced Monday afternoon.

The Budapest, Hungary native tallied five goals, including her third career hat-trick, in a 2-0 week for the Red Storm.

In St. John’s home opener against NJIT Thursday night, Kajan scored the Johnnies’ second goal of the evening in the 35th minute before adding an insurance tally with a little over 11 minutes remaining. St. John’s defeated the Highlanders, 3-0, to kick off the fall campaign.

On Sunday at Saint Joseph’s, Kajan registered the third hat-trick of her collegiate career. The three-goal outing against the Hawks was the quickest of Kajan’s career, and believed to be the quickest in program history as the 5-7 forward struck thrice in 12 minutes.

Kajan broke through in the 55th minute. The sequence began as Kayla Mesaros played a through ball into the box for Kajan, who finished on the ground for a 1-0 advantage. Seven minutes later, Katherine Turner sent a long pass up to Kajan, who corralled the ball and dribbled toward the net before sending it into the top of the cage. Less than six minutes later, Kajan completed the hat-trick, converting a penalty kick.

She tops the conference with five goals, three more than the next closest Big East player. The Red Storm’s active leading scorer has increased her career total up to 33 goals and is five shy of moving into third on the Red Storm’s all-time scoring list.

St. John’s returns to action Friday at 6 p.m, welcoming Columbia University.
