PHILADELPHIA – The St. John’s University men capped an unbeaten preseason with a 1-0 victory over Temple University at Temple Sports Complex Friday night.

Senior midfielder Brandon Knapp scored for the second time in as many preseason road matches, providing the gamewinner with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Knapp, who scored and picked up a assist during a 2-2 draw against Rutgers University last Friday night in Piscataway, N.J. was assisted on the play by Atila Ashrafi.

Goalkeepers Luka Gavran and Emmanuel Smalios combined for their second straight preseason shutout.

The Red Storm outshout the Owls, 19-5.

The Johnnies, who were picked to finish sixth in the Big East preseason coaches poll this week, will open the fall season at No. 6 Clemson University Thursdayy night. After taking on the Tigers, the Red Storm will play five consecutive home matches at Belson Stadium beginning Aug. 30 against UAlbany.
