Zaki Anwari, a member of Afghanistan’s national youth team, has been identified as one of the people who fell to his death from a U.S. military plane leaving Kabul airport.

Afghan authorities confirmed Anwari was the victim as he tried to stow away on the plane.

Anwari was 19.

In a statement, Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said: “With great regret and sadness, we obtained information that Zaki Anwari, one of the youth footballers of the national team, has lost his life in a horrible incident.”

Anwari was “endeavoring to leave the country like hundreds other youth from his country. He has fallen down from the US military plane and lost his life,” the statement added.

On Monday, video showed hundreds of people running alongside a U.S. Air Force C-17 plane as it moved down a runway. Some people tried to cling to its side.

At least two people fell to their deaths, according to local media reports. The Air Force said that human remains was found on the landing gear of the plane after landing in Qatar.

Thousands of people have been trying to escape Afghanistan after the Taliban took over most of the country, including its capital, Kabul.
