WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University men’s head coach Robert McCourt has announced the team’s fall schedule, which begins at home Aug. 27.

The defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions will open conference play against Rider University Sept. 29.

Monmouth faces Howard University in its season opener. The teams last met it 2016, when the Hawks earned a 2-1 victory. A week later, the Blue & White remain home to take on St. Francis Brooklyn.

Two road matches follow, with trips to Delaware and UConn. Monmouth owns a 6-1-1 record against the Blue Hens, including a 3-0 win in 2009. That same year, the Hawks advanced past UConn in the NCAA Division I Tournament on penalty kicks.

Binghamton travels to West Long Branch Sept. 18. The last two meetings with the Bearcats (2018 and 2019) have ended in scoreless draws. Non-conference play is wrapped a week later when the Hawks head to the University of Pennsylvania.

Monmouth hosts Rider for its MAAC opener Sept. 29. Led by goals from Julian Gomez and Sebastian Rodriguez, the Hawks defeated the Broncs in the semifinals last season.

A MAAC Championship rematch awaits Oct. 23 when Monmouth travels to Quinnipiac. An 86th minute goal from Gomez propelled the Hawks to a 1-0 victory in April, securing the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The team concludes regular season play Wednesday, Nov. 3 with a trip to Siena. The 2021 MAAC Championships will begin Nov. 7. The semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 11, with the championship game landing Nov. 14.
