HARRISON, N.J. – Red Bull Arena will host a doubleheader of international matches August 1 with Club Deportivo Olimpia facing Futbol Club Motagua and Deportivo Independiente Medellin taking on America de Cali S.A, the Red Bulls announced Friday.
Kick-off for the doubleheader is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.
Club Deportivo Olimpia finished top of Group B of Liga Nacional this season, after earning 11 wins in 14 matches, and only conceding nine goals. In the Liga Nacional final, Olimpia defeated Motagua on penalty kicks, 4-3. Olimpia participated in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League but fell to Club America in the Round of 16, 2-2, on away goals.
Futbol Club Motagua finished second in Group B of Liga Nacional right behind Olimpia. The squad finished four points behind Club Deportivo Olimpia with 31 points from 14 matches. This will be a rematch of the 2021 Liga Nacional Final. Former Red Bulls midfielder Amado Guevara started his career with Futbol Club Motagua in 1994. He made 258 appearances for the club and recorded 72 goals, third all-time in club history.
The second match of the doubleheader will pit Deportivo Independiente Medellin against America de Cali S.A.
Deportivo took ninth place in Liga BetPlay Dimayor in Colombia, finishing at 6-8-4. Medellin won the Copa Colombia in back-to-back seasons in 2019 and 2020.
America de Cali S.A. sits in eighth place of Categories Primeria A with 29 points. It won the league in 2020, defeating Santa Fe. Forward Antony de Avila, who played for the MetroStars from 1996-97, started his professional career with America de Cali S.A. He made 492 appearances and scored 208 goals, the most in franchise history.
