HARRISON, N.J. – NJ/NY Gotham FC has scored but twice this season and both of its goals have come in a 1-0 wins.
The team’s latest victory came Saturday night at Red Bull Arena as Gotham FC edged OL Reign, 1-0.
Gotham FC improved to 2-1-1 and seven points in the National Women’s Soccer League as the OL Reign (four points) fell to 1-2-1.
Ifeoma Onumonu headed home a Caprice Dydasco cross in the 12th minute and the hosts made sure the goal stood up.
OL Reign dominated the opening 10 minutes. U.S. women’s internationals Rose Lavelle and Megan Rapinoe created several chances for the visitors, with the latter ringing goalkeeper Didi Haracic’s post with the match six minutes. Gotham FC regained control, and the lead, on Onumonu’s goal six minutes later.
Both sides had clear-cut opportunities to score, but both goalkeepers held strong as the final 15 minutes. Rapinoe sent in a scintillating cross off a free kick in the 80th minute, but it could not find any of her teammates.
Following the international break, Gotham FC will visit the Orlando Pride June 20 at 8 p.m. ET. OL Reign will stay on the road, heading to WakeMed Soccer Park to face the North Carolina Courage June 19 at 4 p.m. ET.
