MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Red Bulls II continued to struggle early in the USL Championship season, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Pittsburgh Riverhouds before 369 fans at MSU Soccer Park Friday night.
The hosts fell to 1-3-2 while the Riverhounds (1-2-1) won its first game.
The Riverbounds struck twice within a seven-minute span midway through the opening half and never looked back. Alex Dixon led the way with a goal and an assist.
Danny Griffin volleyed in an Albert Dikwa cross from the left side of the penalty area to give the visitors a 1-0 lead i the 22nd minute.
Pittsburgh doubled its lead seven minutes later, as Alex Dixon tapped in a pass from Dani Rovira.
The Riverhounds padded their lead in the 50th minute, as Russell Cicerone converted a Dixon pass.
NYRBII goalkeeper AJ Marcucci made one save in goal in his fourth professional appearance.
