Now, here’s something you don’t see everyday.

Or for a superstar’s entire career, for that matter.

U.S. soccer legend Landon Donovan has been suspended for one game by the USL Championship after receiving a red card in San Diego Loyal SC’s 2-1 loss at Louisville City FC Saturday night, the league announced Wednesday.

The defeat dropped San Diego to 0-4-0.

Donovan, the San Diego head coach, was sanctioned for leaving the technical area and dissent to a game official.

The former Major League Soccer star and U.S. men’s international will serve his suspension against Las Vegas Lights FC Saturday.

In his star-studded MLS career, Donovan never was red carded in 340 regular season matches or 44 playoff games. He was booked for 52 yellow cards in the regular season, on nine occasions in the playoffs.
