HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra University senior forward Matthew Vowinkel and senior defender George O’Malley have been named to the 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s Scholar All-Region team, it was announced by the organization.

They are making their second consecutive appearance on the squad.

Vowinkel added his second scholar all-region accolade to his resume after compiling a 3.45 grade-point average as a finance major. The New Hyde Park, N.Y. native enjoyed another stellar season in 2020-21, leading the Pride with six goals, five assists and 17 points in 10 games. Vowinkel was a first team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick for the second consecutive season and ranked second in the league in assists and third in goals and points.

O’Malley, a team co-captain, earned the honor after compiling a 3.62 GPA average as a marketing major. The Harrow, England native was an All-CAA first team selection after anchoring the defensive unit and adding a goal and two assists. O’Malley was also a CAA men’s soccer championship All-Tournament Team selection for the third consecutive season after helping the Pride to the CAA finals in 2020-21.

Hofstra finished the 2020-21 campaign with a 5-2-3 record and won the CAA North Division.
