HARRISON, N.J. – Red Bulls II have signed defender Emir Tomboul to a USL Championship contract pending federation and league approval, the club announced Tuesday.

Tomboul, 20, most recently played for Guimaraes B in Portugal. He made six appearances in Liga Revelacao U-23 last season.

“Emir [Tomboul] as a center back has a lot of the tools that we value,” NYRB II head coach John Wolyniec said. “We really like his personality, and we feel like he can be a big contributor for us in the future.”

The 6-4 Tomboul played his youth years for FC Rapperswil- Jona Youth in Switzerland, before making his way up to its Under-17 team during the 2017-2018 season. Tomboul moved up to Grasshopper Club Zurich U-18’s during the 2018-2019 season.

“I am very excited to join this club and cannot wait to get started with the team,” Tomboul said. “I am excited to learn from John because of his past experiences as a player and I’m sure I will learn a lot.”
