The Stony Brook University women will face Ohio State in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Tournament Wednesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.

It will mark the first meeting between the programs.

The winner will face 11th-seeded Santa Clara, the West Coast Conference champion.

“Ohio State is a great team,” Stony Brook head coach Tobias Bischof said. “It’s a tough conference where they come from. They had a good year overall. I believe they lost to Rutgers in the [Big Ten] tournament, but it will be a tough test for us. I believe they have the defender of the year in their back line. It will make it hard for us to find our goal, but we’re happy to be there and we’re looking forward to the contest.”

The Seawolves qualified for their second s NCAA successive tournament and third in four years, with a 1-0 victory against Binghamton Univeristy in Saturday’s America East championship game in Lowell, Mass.

Fanny Götesson scored in the ninth minute, tapping the ball into the vacated net with her left foot off a return pass from Alyssa Francese, for the lone goal.

The women’s and men’s tournaments will be held in North Carolina this postseason.
