HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Following a stellar performance in goal for Hofstra University in a scoreless draw with the University of Delaware, freshman goalkeeper Wessel Speel was named the Colonial Athletic Association rookie of the week Monday.

It was Speel’s first CAA weekly accolade this season.

The Utrecht, The Netherlands native stopped all six shots he faced Friday evening in the tie. He matched his season-high with six saves, with three in regulation and three more in the two extratime periods.

Speel lowered his goals-against average to 1.07 with his second career shutout as he helped the Pride move to 3-2-2.

Hofstra returns to action at Northeastern University in the regular season finale for both teams April 10.
