SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall University’s Laura Hooper scored the game-winning goal with 21 seconds remaining in extratime to record a 3-2 Big East victory over the St. John’s University women at Owen T. Carroll Field Thursday night.

The Red Storm’s leading scorers Zsani Kajan and Jessica Garziano found the back of the net. Garziano, who ranked third in the conference in scoring entering the contest, increased her total to six goals. Kajan has tallied four goals, increasing her career total to 28. Addison Hornsey picked up her first assist of the campaign on Garziano’s goal.

Trailing 2-1 in the 64th minute, Seton Hall tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Hooper. After neutralizing the Pirates attack through the first 19 minutes of extratime, St. John’s surrendered the game winner in the 110th minute.

St. John’s (5-3-1, 2-3-1) outshot Seton Hall (2-6-0, 1-6-0), 28-13, and earned 11 corners to the Pirates’ seven.

Seton Hall broke through first in the 52nd minute, as Naomi Welch’s strike bounced over the head of Naya Lipkins and into the goal.

Nearly eight minutes later Kajan netted the equalizer. The Budapest, Hungary native dribbled around a three defenders before sending a shot to the right corner of the cage to knot the game at 1-1.

Just over a minute later, the Johnnies struck again as Garziano rocketed a shot to the top of the cage for a 2-1 advantage. The sequence began as Hornsey sent a long pass up to Garziano from just outside the box. The Melville, N.Y. native sent the ball over the head of the Seton Hall goalkeeper.
