CHICAGO – In coordination with the Jamaica Football Federation, U.S. Soccer has confirmed that two players on the Jamaica national team have tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be eligible to participate in Thursday’s match in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.
The players did not have any high-risk contact with any other players or staff prior to, or following, their arrival to Austria.
Those players were not immediately identified.
Two other members of the delegation had a positive test and were also placed into isolation. They have subsequently received two consecutive negative test results, and per UEFA and U.S. Soccer protocols have been deemed eligible.
The match will proceed as scheduled.
U.S. Soccer said that its top priority is the health and safety of its players and staff.
“U.S. Soccer is grateful for the support and cooperation of the Jamaica Football Federation in ensuring a safe environment for all members of the delegations,” U.S. Soccer said in a statement.
In the rematch of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup semifinal, the Americans and Reggae Boyz are set tussle at 1 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN2, UniMás and TUDN.
