QUEENS, N.Y. – After St. John’s University played Villanova University to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon, Ava Collins and Zsani Kajan were recognized by the conference for their efforts.
Collins was named Big East freshman of the week for the second time this season while Kajan garnered a spot on conference’s weekly honor roll.
In the Red Storm’s lone game of the week, Collins tallied a goal and assist vs. Villanova. The Auckland, New Zealand native assisted on Kajan’s game-tying score in the 53rd minute to knot the game 1-1 before the rookie forced overtime with her equalizer in the 83rd.
Through eight games, Collins has recorded two goals and a team-high four assists. The freshman forward ranks second in the conference in assists.
Kajan, named 2021 preseason offensive player of the year, also registered a goal and an assist. She has found the back of the net three times this season, increasing her career total to 27.
The Budapest, Hungary native sits second on the team in scoring and is tied for seventh in the conference.
Collins, Kajan and the Red Storm travel to South Orange, N.J. for a 6 p.m. Thursday match-up with Seton Hall University.
