The National Independent Soccer Association announced Monday that Detroit City FC and the Los Angeles Force will compete in the 2021 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Open Cup committee told NISA it would have two teams compete in the tournament.

In a statement released by the league, NISA commissioner John Prutch said the two teams were Detroit City FC, for winning the fall tournament crown and the Force for being the top seed out of group play.

U.S. Soccer accepted those teams.

“The league very much look forward to the clubs’ performance as our representatives in this amazing tournament,” the NISA statement said.

Here is the full statement from the league:

“Late Friday, NISA received word from the U.S. Open Cup Committee that the cup would proceed and that NISA would have two clubs competing. NISA and its clubs have been discussing which squads to send to the 2021 US Open Cup, given the limited field. Commissioner John Prutch confirmed it would be decided by the results of NISA’s 2020 Fall Championship Tournament. That would give Detroit City FC – for winning the fall tournament championship – and the Los Angeles Force – by virtue of being the no. 1 seed out of group play – the opportunity to represent NISA. USSF has accepted this position. The league very much look forward to the clubs’ performance as our representatives in this amazing tournament.”
