HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University men will return to action with a non-conference matchup at NJIT at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium in Newark, N.J. Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Hofstra (2-2) is coming off a 3-0 victory over Drexel University in its Colonial Athletic Association opener this past Saturday. Matthew Vowinkel scored two goals and added an assist. Goalkeeper Wessel Speel recorded four saves to earn his first career shutout.
Vowinkel leads the Pride in scoring with three goals and an assist for seven points. He moved into eighth place on the Hofstra career goals list with 26 and is one shy of seventh place. Vowinkel is also five points shy of 10th place in career points. Ryan Carmichael has scored two goals on the season while Luca Tausch has a goal and an assist. Jack Nuttall and Joe Wright have also contributed goals for Hofstra. Storm Strongin paces the Pride with three assists and is now tied for 10th place on the career assists list with 15. Hendrik Hebbeker, George O’Malley, and Stefan Mason also have helpers for the Pride.
Speel has started all four games in goal and has a 1.25 goals against average and 11 saves.
The Highlanders (1-1-1) and are coming off a 2-0 loss to Stony Brook University March 12. Regsan Watkins leads the team in scoring with one goal and one assist. Rene White, Zach Halma, Sergio Pita, and Tomas Jorge each have one goal for the Highlanders. Alejandro Rabell, Jose Adames, and Jose Escandon have each added assists. Samuel Reisgys has a 1.86 goals-against average and 19 saves in goal.
