STORRS, CONN. – The St. John’s University women dropped their first game, falling to the University of Connecticut, 1-0, in Big East at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at Rizza Performance Center Thursday afternoon.

St. John’s fell to 5-1-0, 2-1-0 while the Huskies improved to 3-1-1, 1-1-1.

Goalkeeper Naya Lipkens turned aside three shots.

The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. After firing off two shots in the opening eight minutes, Yamilee Eveillard converted on her third attempt. Jessica Mazo picked up an assist.

After a quiet first half for Zsani Kajan, who was named Big East offensive player of the week Monday, the Budapest, Hungary native had two quality scoring opportunities. Kajan’s strike was blocked in the 61st minute A little over 10 minutes later, the 5-7 forward rocketed a shot towards the cage, but her attempt was turned aside by goalkeeper Randi Palacios.

St. John’s visits Georgetown University Sunday at 1 p.m.
