Major League Soccer has announced that it has begun a formal review of Inter Miami CF’s signing of French international midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
The league will investigating whether the signing of Matuidi complied with its salary budget and roster guidelines.
MLS stated that it will not make further comment until the completion of its investigation.
Matuidi, a member of France’s 2018 World Cup champion team, signed with Inter Miami Aug. 13, 2020. He was a four-time Ligue 1 champion and three-time Serie A titlist.
He most recently played with Juventus, which captured the 2019-20 Serie A crown.
According to the Miami Herald Aug. 13, 2020, Matuidi was not to be one of the team’s three Designated Players, although apparently his salary has gone against those rules and regulations.
