RICHMOND, Va. – In the first week of competition, the Hofstra University women swept the Colonial Athletic Association weekly honors as senior Lucy Porter was named the league’s offensive player of the week while freshman Louise Hayden earned top rookie honors.

Porter, the reigning CAA midfielder of the year. picked up right where she left off last season, leading the Pride with two goals in the 4-3 victory over Stony Brook University. Her first goal, the eventual game-winner, gave Hofstra the lead for good in the 56th minute before adding a second goal about eight minutes later to seal the victory.

Porter has 33 career goals which is fifth in Hofstra program history while her 78 career points are tied for sixth in Hofstra program history.

Hayden, a freshman from Bjärred, Sweden, earned the start on Hofstra’s back line and played 76 minutes in her first career game. She recorded one assist, helping Miri Taylor score Hofstra’s first goal of the season with just under 40 seconds left in the first half.

The team looks to make it a 2-0 start Thursday at 2 p.m. as the Pride is set to host Fairleigh Dickinson University.
