MILAN – Weston McKennie won his first trophy in European as Juventus captured the Italian Super Cup Wednesday.

Juve won a record ninth championship in the competition, besting Napoli, 2-0, at San Siro.

“Words can’t describe the feeling to be able to finally lift a trophy,” McKennie said on Twitter. “Hopefully the first of many!!!”

McKennie, a U.S. international midfielder, played the full 90 minutes for the winners.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal and Alvaro Morata added another on the final kick of the match after Napli missed an opportunity to send the game into extratime when Lorenzo Insigne missed a late penalty kick.

“It’s a very happy moment and lifting my first trophy as a coach makes it even better,” said Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo, who played for New York City FC.

Juventus, which is in fifth place in Serie A, hosts Bologna on Sunday.
