The Washington Spirit selected Wednesday night Trinity Rodman, the daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, with the second overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft.

Rodman, a forward for Washington State, did not appear in any games for the Cougars after joining them as a freshman in the fall of 2020. Due to Covid-19, Washington State and the Pac-12 did not play a fall season in 2020. Instead, they are expected to play a shortened spring season.

Dennis Rodman, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.

Because of a waiver obtained by the NWSL from the NCAA, players picked in the 2021 NWSL Draft will have until Friday, January 22, 2021 to decide whether to report immediately to their NWSL club or at the conclusion of the spring collegiate season.

The Spirit have three remaining selections – the 19th, 29th, and 39th picks.
