Marcelo Reyna, the older brother of Austin FC sporting director Claudio Reyna, has passed away.

He was 51.

Reyna died from COVID-19 related complications Dec. 19.

“Thinking about the Reyna family especially my good friends Miguel and Lourdes Reyna,” former Long Island University men’s head coach Arnie Ramirez said on his Facebook page.

Ramirez is good frined with Miguel Reyna.

Born in Orange, N,J., Reyna moved with his family to Springfield, N.J., where he graduated from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School before he attended the University of Notre Dame to earn his architecture degree in 1993.

He moved to Phoenix, Ariz., practicing for many years as a project manager. He also coached a youth soccer team.

Reyna is survived by his wife Nicki, son Owen, and daughter Zoe; parents Miguel and Lourdes; and brother Claudio (Danielle) and was predeceased by his nephew, Jack.

“Marcelo will be missed greatly by his many nieces and nephews and countless friends,” Legacy.com said. “He contributed to a legacy of building projects that will continue to serve the public long after his passing.

“As much as Marcelo enjoyed a gathering of friends and family, no services will be held at this time.”
