HARRISON, N.J. – The Red Bulls have acquired a third-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft from Inter Miami CF in exchange for the rights to defender Patrick Seagrist, the Major League Soccer team announced Wednesday.
New York will receive an additional $50,000 in General Allocation Money if certain performance metrics are hit during nextseason.
“Everyone at the club thanks Patrick for his efforts, he handled himself well while adjusting to life as a professional, and we wish him good luck in the next stage of his career,” Red Bulls head of sport Kevin Thelwell said in a statement.
Seagrist was selected by the Red Bulls in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft out of Marquette University. The Barrington, Ill. native appeared in three games in his rookie season.
He featured for Marquette for four years (2016-2019), registering 65 overall appearances, 63 of them starts, and recording six goals and 16 assists. Seagrist’s college fútbol career was highlighted by leading the Golden Eagles in assists in his senior campaign with seven, as well as earning All-Big East first team honors in 2018 and 2019.
Seagrist played for the Chicago Sockers FC Academy for three seasons, serving as captain two years. He caught national attention from an early age, being rated by TopDrawerSoccer.com as the 15th-best defender in the Midwest coming out of high school.
New York declined an option on Seagrist following the conclusion of the 2020 season.
