HARRISON, N.J. – Red Bulls midfielder Jared Stroud was selected by Austin FC in the 2020 MLS expansion draft Tuesday night.
The team will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money in exchange for Stroud.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to thank Jared, who has worked hard to improve his game over the last few seasons with Red Bulls II,” Red Bulls head of sport Kevin Thelwell said in a statement. “He earned an MLS contract, earned playing time, and did well for us whenever called upon. He’s shown that he can play in MLS, and we wish him all the best in Austin.”
The New Jersey native signed an MLS contract Jan. 7 and rrecord 11 starts in 20 appearances with 925 minutes in 2020. He made his MLS debut against Atlanta United July 11 in the MLS is Back Tournament and made his first MLS start against New York City FC in a 1-0 win Aug. 20.
Stroud recorded his first MLS assist against Inter Miami FC Oct. 7.
