MIAMI – Inter Miami CF traded defender Ben Sweat to Austin FC in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM), it was announced Sunday.

Sweat, a former New York City FC player, was the first overall pick in the 2019 Major League Soccer expansion draft for Inter Miami, joining the club Nov. 19, 2019. The 29-year-old left back went on to make 22 regular season appearances, including 20 starts, registering 1,675 minutes and two assists.

He featured in several milestone moments for the club. Sweat started in the team’s debut match with a trip to face 2019 Supporters’ Shield champions LAFC, featured in the team’s first win – a victory over Orlando City SC in the first home match at Inter Miami CF Stadium – and appeared as a substitute in the team’s playoff loss to Nashville SC.

Sweat played for NYCFC from 2017-19.
