Sergiño Dest made history Tuesday, becoming the first American to score for Barcelona.

The 20-year-old right back scored the first goal for Barca in its 4-0 win over host Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Champions League as the Spanish team booked its sixth successive appearance in the UCL knockout round.

Playing without Lionel Messi and the Group G game scoreless in the 52nd minute, the U.S. men’s national team defender  made an overlapping run. He took a pass from Martin Braithwaite then drilled home a seven-yard shot to the lower left past goalkeeper Heorhii Bushchan.

As it turned out, another American also made history as Dest’s USMNT teammate Konrad de la Fonte made his debut for the La Liga side, subbing for Francisco Trincão in the 83rd minute.

De la Fonte who became the record seventh American to appear in the 2020-21 competition. The 21-year-old set up Dest for a scoring opportunity in the 89th minute but the defender sent his shot over the crossbar.
