Gio Reyna: “I have already learned a lot in Dortmund and I want to learn a lot more in future.”

It’s been an incredible two weeks for Gio Reyna.

He made his first two appearances for the U.S. men’s national team.

He turned 18.

And now he has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund.

Reyna signed a new deal Friday through June 2025, the Bundesliga club announced.

He has stood out for club and country.

“Gio’s development in recent months has been incredible,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said. “He will definitely be an important part of Borussia Dortmund’s sporting future. I am personally very pleased that he has decided to extend his contract with BVB in the long term with complete conviction.”

Reyna became the first 17-year-old to record three assists in a Bundesliga contest, in the 4-0 home win over Freiburg. He has made 22 Bundesliga appearances, recording two goals and five assists). The former New York City FC Academy standout has participated in five Champions League matches. Plus, he has scored twice in two German Cup games.

“I have already learned a lot in Dortmund and I want to learn a lot more in future,” Reyna said on Borussia’s website.

“I’m looking forward to gaining more experience,” Reyna said. “The club has everything a young player could want. That’s the reason why I’m here. And I’m happy to be here.”

Borussia visits Hertha BSC in Berlin Saturday.
