Talk about a power couple in so many ways.
Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird are engaged.
They announced their engagement via a picture posted on Bird’s Instrgram account Friday. A Rapinoe representative confirmed the news to Reuters Saturday.
Rapinoe is a two-time winner of the Women’s World Cup and a member of the 20212 Olympic gold-medal winning U.S. women’s national team, while Bird is an 11-time WNBA all-star.
Bird, 40, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, won her fourth WNBA title with the Seattle Storm earlier this month, returning after sitting out the 2019 season with a knee injury.
Rapinoe, 35, who captured the Ballon d’Or in 2019 along with the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the WWC, was on the sidelines during the 2020 WNBA campaign. That season which took place inside a quarantined setting in Bradenton, Fla. because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The two women have been an item for more than three years.
The engagement announcement brought congratulations from several high-profile figures in sports and politics.
