Major League Soccer Wednesday announced that Columbus Crew SC defender Josh Williams has been suspended for four matches due to a violation of league rules.

In a press release, the league did not specify what league rules were broken.

Williams already has served two of the four matches, vs. New York City FC Oct. 18 and at Houston Dynamo Oct. 24. He will serve the remaining two matches at D.C. United Oct. 28 and vs. Philadelphia Union Nov. 1.

In June 2011, Williams was suspended for 10 games by MLS for violating the substance abuse policy and testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
