QUEENS, N.Y. – Unable to take on outside competition this fall, the St. John’s University men battled within its own ranks Tuesday night as the Red and White sides played to a 2-2 draw under the lights at Belson Stadium.
White jumped out to a sizable lead in the early going, using first half goals from Jared Juleau and Tani Oluwaseyi to take a 2-0 advantage into the intermission.
Juleau struck first on a penalty kick in the 30th minute after Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau drew a foul in the box. Only five minutes later, Juleau assisted on Oluwaseyi’s tally, slipping a ball through traffic before the reigning Big East offensive player of the year buried it.
Red responded in the second half, as a pair of freshmen connected to bring the team within one in the opening minutes. In the 53rd minute, Constantinos Nicolaou took a pass in the box from Enir Radoncic and fired it into the back of the cage, slicing the deficit in half.
Just under 20 minutes later, another first-year Johnnie evened the score for Red, as Wesley Leggett dribbled down the left side of the box and evaded his defender before recording his first goal at Belson. Senior Rafael Bustamante, a Queens native, logged an assist.
