MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Red Bulls II completed the worst season in its six-year history with a 2-0 defeat to Hartford Athletic in the USL Championship at MSU Soccer Park Sunday night.
NYRBII, which has a tradition of reaching the playoffs and vying for league titles, finished with a 5-11-0 record and only 15 points.
Red Bulls II, which captured the 2016 league title, had finished below .500 only once prior, with a 13-14-5 mark in 2017. The team reached the conference semifinals in 2015, the conference final in 2017 and 2018 and the conference quarterfinal last year.
The visitors took the lead in the 65th minute, when Ever Guzman found Tyreke Johnson in the box. Conor McGlynn added the second in the 75th minute.
Six Red Bulls Academy players took the field, including 15-year-old midfielder Serge Ngoma, who made his third professional appearance.
Under-17 goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton subbed on in the 71st minute, making his pro debut.
