Toronto FC midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo was voted the Major League Soccer player of the month by members of the media for September, it was announced Thursday

Pozuelo finished the month with four goals and two assists in six matches played, helping Toronto to finish the month with an active four-game unbeaten streak including three wins in that span. The Spaniard leads the league with nine assists to go along with six goals, while his 15  combined goals and assists is the league high. Toronto is tied for second in the Eastern Conference standings with 28 points (8-2-4).

Toronto’s unbeaten mark began with a 2-1 road victory over the Montreal Impact Sept. 9. Pozuelo then scored a goal in the 17th minute of Toronto’s 2-2 draw at D.C. United on Sept. 19 (watch goa l), the first of three straight matches in which he found the scoresheet. Toronto would then pull off a dramatic 1-0 victory at New York City FC Sept. 23 behind a Pozuelo penalty kick goal in the 90th minute (watch goal). Pozuelo capped the month with an assist on Jozy Altidore’s 48th minute goal ( watch assist) before scoring a goal of his own in the 59th minute (watch goal) to help Toronto secure a 3-1 home victory over Supporters’ Shield leading Columbus Crew SC  Sept. 27.

Toronto began the month with back-to-back losses, first a 1-0 home defeat to Montreal on Sept. 1 followed by a 3-2 road loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sept. 5. Against Vancouver, Pozuelo contributed a 25th minute assist on Jonathan Osorio’s goal (watch assist) and scored an equalizing header in the 71st minute ( watch goal).

Toronto continues action on Saturday against the Philadelphia Union at Rentschler Field (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+ / TSN1 / TSN4).
