HARRISON, N.J. – As if New York City FC needed yet another injury to another key player.

Team captain and midfielder Alex Ring was forced to leave the match with a leg injury, perhaps a knee ailment, after a tackle by Brandon Vázquez. Jesus Medina replaced him in the 39th minute at Red Bull Arena Saturday night.

It was not immediately known what the exact nature of the injury was.

During his post-game press conference, head coach Ronny Deila said that Ring’s injury was only a “knock” and that he should be good going forward.

Ring, a central midfielder who can play the wing as well, has been one of the reasons why NYCFC has accrued as many wins and points this season. The team cannot afford any more injuries to such vital performers.

NYCFC already was without two of its most influential players, playmaking midfielder Maxi Moralez and forward Heber.

Moralez is expected to miss another month with a knee injury while Heber torn his ACL in the 1-0 loss to Toronto FC Wednesday night.

Ring’s status for next Saturday’s game at Inter Miami FC was not immediately known. But one NYCFC player won’t be playing – center back Alex Callens, who incurred another yellow card that will force him to miss that contest.
