QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John’s University women’s soccer program continued its tradition of academic excellence in 2019-20, as it was honored with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, it was announced by the organization Thursday.
In order to be eligible for the award, a squad must carry a composite grade-point average above 3.0 for the entire academic year. The women’s team turned in an 3.83 GPA in 2019-20, good enough for fourth in all of Division I.
“Finishing in the top four of Division I women’s soccer teams nationally [based on team cumulative GPA] is again a remarkable accomplishment,” head coach Ian Stone said. “I have to give a great deal of credit to our amazing student-athletes for successfully navigating their way academically through very different times.”
This marks the 16th occasion in which the squad has garnered the accolade, and the fourth consecutive year.
