KEENESAW, Ga. – The Red Bulls II defense was in a giving mood Wednesday night as Atlanta United 2 rolled to a 5-3 victory at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in USL Championship action.
It may be difficult to believe, but up until the opening half hour or so, it was still anyone’s game.
Atlanta tallied the opening goal in the 17th minute off a strike from Jackson Conway. Three minutes later, Amir Bashti doubled Atlanta’s lead.
NYRB II forward Dantouma Toure answered back in the 21st minute. Toure recorded his third goal this season, while Kenan Hot tallied his first professional assist.
Forward Jake Lacava found the equalizer in the 28th minute, his fourth goal.
Then the bottom fell out.
Atlanta recorded three more goals from Phillip Goodrum (29th minute), Conway (two minutes into first-half stoppage time and David Meija (71st minute).
NYRB II defender Samad Bounthong scored his first professional goal in the 83rd minute.
Five Red Bulls Academy players played in the match, which included Serge Ngoma making his professional debut.
Team aptain Chris Lema made his 70th appearance for NYRB II, extending his all-time lead.
NYRB II will return home and host Philadelphia Union II at MSU Soccer Park Saturday, Sept. 26 at at 5 p.m.
