FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – A week after making his first Major League Soccer appearance, Joe Scally reached another milestone.

The Lake Grove, N.Y. native was in the Starting XI for New York City FC in its 0-0 tie at the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium Saturday.

The 17-year-old Scally admitted he had some nerves, but he acquitted himself well at right back.acq

“During the week we do different things with tactics to face the other team, I realized I was in the lineup,” Scally said. “Of course when you first get your name called … I had nerves, but I was very excited because I’ve been waiting for this start.”

Scally, who received a yellow card in the 47th minute, was replaced by Anton Tinnerholm in the 65th minute.

“I thought it was a good performance,” Scally said. “As the game went on, I grew into the game more. Of course, I would have liked to get forward much more, but they were good at pressing us so that limited me going forward. But other than that, I think it was a good first game.”

So did head coach Ronny Deila, who said, that two players who made their first NYCFC starts, midfielder Nicolás Acevedo and Scally “from the start did a good job.”

Scally will join Borussia Mönchengladbach in January.
