Twenty-five years ago, the Long Island Lady Riders captured the 1995 U.S. Women’s Interrregional Soccer League crown.

Former Long Island Lady Riders goalkeeper Kim Wyant was asked by FrontRowSoccer.com to look back at her team that captured the 1995 U.S. Women’s Interregional Soccer League title.

Wyant, who backstopped the U.S. women’s national team in its first game in 1985, also coached and was general manager of the Lady Riders.

These are Wyant’s responses:

Kim Conway, defender

“Steady, strong committed outside back.”

Diana Galletta, defender

“Another outside back, not consistent started but contributed minutes where needed.”

Christine Ho, defender

“Organization center back and center defender. Played like a coach, organizing and snuffing out attacks. Also, back-up emergency GK if needed.”

Christine Wiedman, defender

“Outside back, team cheerleader, very positive, always smiling.”

Lisa Shaffer, defender

“Played center mid, more of a stopper or a six. Great in the air, good physical presents and could distribute ball very well. Very good player.”

Traci Sofsian, defender

“Most consistent steady defender, major organizer, calm composed player.”

Jennifer Baumann, midfielder

“Super technical attacking player, good with ball at her feet, great distributor of ball and could score goals.”

Dina Grossman, midfielder

“Major work rate, up-and-down midfielder. Had attacking mentally with great ability to defend as well.”

Nicole Maslovs, midfielder

“Good physical presence. A defending midfielder that could attack and distribute ball well.”

Shannon Sepe, midfielder

“Most gifted technical player. Great No. 10 playmaker, some of the best skills I’ve ever seen in the female game.”

Cindy Spera, midfielder

“High energy player, versatile up and down midfielder. Great team bonder and glue of the team.”

Caitlin Connolly, forward

“Won every ball in the center of park. Could score goals. No one was a bigger physical presence.”

Gina Vassallo-Tucker, forward

“Team engine and goal scorer. A tenacious defender and mentally strong-willed player. Major force up top, with great speed and determination.”

Diane McLoughlin, forward

“Another pure goal-scorer. Fast. A good 1 v 1 attacker and excellent in front of the goal.”

Kim Wyant, goalkeeper

“Pain in the ass GK but got job done.”
